A free 5-minute ferry to
Governors Island, a 170 acre island in the middle of New York Harbor, leaves from the park in front of our building on the weekends. Formerly an old coast guard base, the island was purchased by the city in 2003 and now operates as a vehicle-free park with concert venues, bike rentals, classes (they were holding statue making and trapeeze classes the day we went) and, of course, plenty of kids activities. We went last Saturday and Kiera and Liam flew kites, learned how to juggle and (sort of) walked on stilts. Mostly, they loved the ferry and wanted to keep riding it back and forth. We would have taken more photos, but are having some issues with camera #6 (these pictures are from Steve's blackberry).
