Liam and Kiera had a pre-school interview yesterday. Basically, they were put in a small classroom with 5 other two-year olds and observed by five teachers/administrators for 30 minutes. To cut a long story very short, it doesn't look like Liam and Kiera will be going to pre-school this year. While most of the other kids sat at stations and played and interacted quietly, Liam and Kiera buzzed around the room, running from activity to activity. One big problem is that they don't sit at tables, preferring to climb up on them. Also, Kiera had a little tantrum in the middle and threw an entire container of legoes around the room. Liam was a bit better, except for the "stop its" he issued repeatedly to Kiera and when he decided to to use one of the blocks as a bat. The kicker came at the end when Liam refused to take "only one" animal cracker on the way out, wanting a second for Kiera. In defense of our children, many of the toys were things they'd seen before, and it was hard to imagine something like a peg puzzle grabbing their attention for an extended amount of time. As a "reward", we took them to the Prospect Park zoo afterwards for some up close up time with the animals.

I'm sorry, those other children are NOT two years old. They look like five year olds! No wonder they're sitting at the table (with Liam); they're waiting for the right forms to fill out their taxes!
hah - those aren't the other two year olds (actually, since Liam and Kiera were born in Feb, they were older than the other children). These pics were taken afterwards at the zoo, where they had an animal drawing station set up outside one of the exhibits (it's a zoo for babies/toddlers).
I love that Liam was insistent on getting a cookie for Kiera. What 2 year old sits quietly for 30 minutes?
Go Liam and Kiera! Love it. I'm so proud of them for not making pre-school! Whoever designed that test hasn't had young children around for quite some time! Tell them they made Uncle Byrd proud.
It was the cookie torture test - who gives a kid a plate of cookies and says "take one". If we weren't already banned from the premises, Steve wouldn't send the kids to the school for that reason alone. You'd think the other kids would have been bad, but they must be in pre pre school training at home. For example, if I had it to do over again, I would have bought a small table and made them practice sitting at it.
I LOVE the idea of Liam and Kiera practicing sitting at a table for the test...
